Knowing about various medical condition that can effect any people is I feel our duty. As knowing can make all the difference sometimes. Lets build awareness and spread to as many people as possible- I hope after reading these, you will also write an article or make a video on this and share with your families and friends.

Liver Cirrhosis alone affects more than million people in India in just a year. According to India Journal of Transplantation, the 1 year-mortality rate of this disease is about 30%. Therefore, it is best to be aware of what causes this disease and prevent it, and know about its symptoms for immediate treatment.

Sadly, the story of people diagnosed with the late stage of cirrhosis is something now so common, I wish that everyone is more aware to prevent this from happening at the first place.

Impo. note.: In many cases before the symptoms of liver cirrhosis is seen, the damaged to liver is already at life-threatening point. So, focus should be on prevention and early detection.

Cirrhosis refer to scaring (fibrosis)of Liver tissue. After any kind of injury- due to excessive consumption of alcohol or due to any disease- as our liver repairs, scar tissues are formed. The more there are the scar tissues the more difficult it is for the liver to function properly. Excessive scaring or advance stage of cirrhosis is life threatening.

The injury in Liver tissue are in most cases due to hepatitis and by excessive consumption of alcohol.

Unfortunately, the damaged to liver cannot be reversed in most cases. However, further damaged can be limited.

Symptoms

The symptoms are often not seen until liver damage is extensive-because of which many people loss their lives. As the effect takes toll on the body, people can show following symptoms:

  • weak, tired and nauseated.
  • Belly pain, swollen legs, bad itch, spiderlike blood vessel.
  • Yellow skin (these is due to liver inability to remove the blood waste called bilirubin, which cause yellowing of skin and eyes, and darkening of urine; the condition is known as Jaunice)

Important note: If someone drinks, even if they don’t, and is seen with these symptoms it’s important to diagnose with your doctor- especially for the adults peoples.

Prevention

  • Prevent excessive drinking, preferably stop drinking. Reducing salt in diet.
  • Eating heathy.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight (as overweight can led to fatty liver disease and steatohepatitis).
  • Reducing risk of Hepatitis by vaccination.

Final note: The only way to treat this is by treating the cause that is scarring (or injuring) the liver.

Side note (Impo. functions of liver):

From the image, its clear that basic bodily functions depends on it. Failure of liver can several deteriorat our health. So for a healthy life, taking care of Liver is so so important.
